September Isles Magazine Fishing Report

September in Sunshiny South West Florida and the kids are back in school. This means to me that there will be more weekend fishing now by those that are busy in the week. So for those of us that can go on Wednesday or any other day of the week, there is more room and less anglers. I remember a time when I could fish on Cape Haze shoreline (West Wall - thanks Frank) on a Saturday and maybe see two other boats all day. It is nice to be able to go when there are fewer boats and anglers. So lets see what the possibilities are this month inshore. Along the shores and grass flats snook, reds, and trout, on the outside of the bars keep your eyes open for pompano, out in the deeper holes in the harbor cobia ,and tarpon. There should be snapper around structures with moving water like rip-rap pilings and mangroves. This month the 27th is full moon and if you like to snapper fish at night the near shore reefs will be teaming with plenty. If you go into federal waters (outside 9 miles) there is a different size and limit so prepare before you go check your spots as to how far off the coast they are. You will encounter mangrove, lane, yellow tail snapper on one of these night trips. Also this month look for anything floating on the surface and check it out. You may find some triple tail that looks like a plastic bag floating in the water they will hang close to the floating object and you can cast a live bait to them like shrimp. If you are around the reefs in the day time. Keep an eye open for permit schools cruising looking for a shrimp on a hook. Grouper in the fifty to seventy foot range along with reds and gags. There are plenty of species to choose from to harvest for a meal. Focus on one or two and go some day during the week while the waters are not teaming with other boats and anglers. Or give Capt Bart Marx a call 941-979-6517 to go on my boat or if you want I can go with you if you need some coaching, or e-mail captbart@alphaomegacharters.com Always remember singing drags and tight lines make me smile. <*(((((>{
